From Soft Power to Nation Building: America’s latest diagnosis

In today’s global chessboard, soft power is king. Military might and economic dominance can only get you so far… You need to own the narrative, build alliances, and shape the world to your advantage. Influence is earned through diplomacy, aid, culture, and strategic investments. For decades, the U.S. was the undisputed champion in providing international assistance.

But when Elon Musk was handed the keys of the federal government, his first move was to target USAID —representing less than 1% of their annual budget.  It sent shockwaves around the globe. Washington has just pulled the plug, freezing USAID for 90 days, pending investigation.  This move created a void, an opportunity  for China, Russia, and other rising powers to step in. In today’s global political landscape, soft power is the name of the game, but the 47th president of the United States rather focus on nation-building instead…

It’s common knowledge that the US interferes in other country’s business —interfering in foreign elections, toppling governments, removing “dictators” … all of that under the pretext of “exporting democracy”.  From Operation Condor in South America during the 70’s and '80s to today’s Middle East crisis , their sphere of influence expanded greatly. Let’s not even mention NATO's relentless enlargement.

For decades, USAID was instrumental in Washington’s global control, funding humanitarian efforts that simultaneously built political strongholds. Founded in 1961 under JFK during the Cold War, USAID wasn’t about charity —it was about keeping the “bad commies” at bay. The Cold War ended but the U.S. continued its efforts.

But now all bets are off,  the Trump administration created a vacuum —one that China and Russia are eager to step in to fill that void.

Beijing ain’t playing ; it’s flooding Africa, Latin America, and Asia with infrastructure deals, loans, and so-called “development projects.”  Xi is writing checks and buying loyalty. Taiwan? Beijing doesn’t need to invade—it’s playing the waiting game. A slow economic strangulation, cyber warfare, and diplomatic maneuvering will eventually do the trick. Across Africa, Latin America, and even parts of Europe, China’s Belt and Road Initiative is progressing.

Meanwhile, Moscow is extending its reach in former Soviet states.  Putin’s strategy isn’t just about tanks and invasions—he’s playing the long game. Ukraine was never just another country; it was an integral part of the USSR. Moldova, Georgia, and the Baltic states? Russia’s influence is still deeply embedded there. Moscow never left—it’s simply been hiding. By cutting U.S. financial influence in these regions, Washington is handing on a silver-plate  the leverage Russia crave so much.

When the white house cuts funding, entire regions feel the impact. Humanitarian workers disappear overnight, governments scramble to replace lost aid and people die.

Owning Gaza, making Canada the 51st state, buying Greenland, reclaiming the Panama Canal, renaming the Gulf of Mexico… This isn’t about sphere of influence; it's straight-up nation-building.  Washington is loosing all credibility in calling out Russia’s takeover of Ukraine or China’s moves on Taiwan.

While Trump and his sidekick Musk drown the media in noise, the real power shift is happening on the ground.  But make no mistake —POTUS’ endgame is control.
